Featured Veteran in Politics

It is hard to find someone in office now that serves this great nation while also holding office. From his website:

A Commander in the United States Navy Reserve, Chris Carney served multiple tours overseas and was activated for operations Enduring Freedom, Noble Eagle, and Southern Watch.

After 9/11, Chris served at the Pentagon as an intelligence analyst and senior adviser on intelligence and counter terrorism issues. Chris coordinated counter terrorism activities in the Middle East and later worked on the integration of national-level intelligence products in the effort to destroy international terrorist networks.

As an Associate Professor at Penn State, Chris taught courses in U.S. Foreign Policy, American Government, and U.S. Security Policy. As a Member of Congress, Chris serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the House Homeland Security Committee, where he is the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Management, Investigations and Oversight.

While in Congress, Chris has made fighting for veterans and national security a priority. In addition, he has worked on numerous legislative initiatives for safer consumer products and getting recalled children's toys off store shelves.

Chris will always fight for our veterans and military families. He knows we owe it to our troops. With Carney’s continuous support, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has received two record-breaking back-to-back funding bills.

By listening to the concerns of many veterans and military families from across our district, Chris knows the importance of getting another Veteran’s health care facility closer to home. This would be located somewhere in the Snyder-Northumberland area. After working on this for the past year, Carney announced that a VA CBOC is in its final stages.
One of Chris’s proudest moments as a Member of Congress was seeing education benefits for National Guard and Reservists become a reality. Because of his work, tens of thousands of Guardsmen and Reservists now have the opportunity to receive a college education. This will benefit more than 9,400 active duty and reserve troops from Pennsylvania who have been deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan and selflessly served our nation.
Serving our veterans and military families is a top priority for Chris Carney.

He is the recipient of the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, three joint Service Achievement Medals, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. His awards also include the Naval Rifle Marksman ribbon and the Naval Pistol Expert Medal.
Being Army Veteran I won’t hold him being Navy against him. Just wait for December 11th when Army win the Army/Navy game.
Rep Chris Carney has helped introduce legislation to improve counseling for student veterans, The Student Veteran Counseling Improvement Act. Chris Carney stated, “We owe it to our men and women in uniform to ensure that their mental health needs are met.”
